]]> By: kirsty http://www.onstagelighting.co.uk/learn-stage-lighting/stage-lighting-education-what-you-need-get-job/comment-page-1/#comment-1936 kirsty Wed, 11 Feb 2009 02:54:06 +0000 http://www.onstagelighting.co.uk/learn-stage-lighting/stage-lighting-education-what-you-need-get-job/#comment-1936 I am a 19 year old female lighting technician...last year i thought it was going to take me years of work ex. uni and rubbish wages.. i did the usual, went to college (performing arts 2yrs btec) and then decided to take a year out to try and get some work experience. i went to my local theatre to find a lovely bunch of people who said come down whenever you like. 6 months later i got a phone call to say a job had become available and that it would be a good idea to apply! at this point i'd already applied for uni and didn't think i had a hope in hell on getting the job... the same day as the interview i was offered the job over 15 others! it was my hard work on work experience and enthusiasm that had sold it to them! i knew nothing they knew that aswel but because of my willingness to learn i now have a salaried full time dream job at the age of 19! on top of this im still attending uni! which they willingly work around. Im not saying i know everything now because i know i don't. i have heaps to learn and im loving every minute of it. hopefully this will set me up to go on to bigger and better things after university. I thought i would share my experience to encourage other young budding lampies to get out there and do the work experience and the rubbish hours and rubbish pay because it really does pay off in the end!!
